Did you know you are adored? To love is to admire with the heart and to admire is to love with the mind (so said Theophile Gautier). God adores you. He longs to lift you and He longs to walk alongside of you. He covers you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet and He never leaves your side.

This is something I am teaching my children. Each and every day to follow and walk alongside the Lord. To remember that they are never alone. He is with you in the easy and with the hard. I don't know about you but for me it is a constant need of reminding. You would think as we get older we could and would grow out of this. But, with childlike faith...this never changes and that is why as an adult, as a young adult and as an adolescent we must take the time to be in His word. So we get the reminders in a big (or subtle) way.

My daughter is reading Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women. Each day has a bible verse and then breaks it down in a way that they can understand. A way to lift them. It gives her things to think about and then even lines to journal her own thoughts in if she likes. I love that this is a simple way for her to be led to the cross. Lord, lead us to the cross. Help us to raise our children to walk in your ways, Lord. Yahweh, help us to bring them to you.

This is a fun post to write as I get to do it alongside my oldest. Emily Grace is almost 11 and has a passion for reading. For this post I asked HER the questions. After all this book is geared towards her. Why not take it right out of the mouth of babes?

• When she first saw the book? It looked cool and creative.

• What the first thing that caught your eye? I would have to say Adam and Eve. It's fun how there are all kinds of colorful pictures.

• Tell me a little bit about the devotion? There, hmmm. The pictures say a lot about what is going on. And there is little captions on the sides that will say things like "God Trust you" "Think" "Remember" and "Question". It gets my mind to think about what is going on in the story.

• What was your favorite thing about this devotional? I think, how colorful it is. It's fun and there is a lot of people. They are all different in a way.

• What about the actual content of the book? The stories tell me a lot about the people. Like in Adam and Eve (the first chapter of it) they described how what God did to make Eve and it was very descriptive.

• If you could pick just 1 story (day) in the book that was your favorite, what would it be and why? I think my favorite is Day 13, "God Calls Samuel". Because it talks about a little kid and it shows that there ARE little kids in the bible and not just grown ups. I also like this one because it talks about how God is talking to him and so it's just very interesting how he does it. Because at first he doesn't believe, and then he believed after Eli told Samuel that it wasn't him it was God. Then the 2nd time God talked to him, Samuel had said "speak Lord, your servant is listening" then God started talking.

• Who would you recommend this book to? All kids in the world that love and care and are interested in devotions because this book is really unique in many ways. Because it has all of these stories, that are all described differently. It's kind of like a chapter book, but it's not.

• If you were to rate this book on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best book ever, what would you rate it? 10 for the best devotion, ever.

For me I have been trying to fill that area of shock, with Jesus. I am doing a bible study on Romans right now and it is deep. Let me tell you it has been so flipping eye opening and jaw droppingly makes you aware of what you are, what you have done and who you want to become. I am choosing to focus on what I am channeling into the world and ears of my children. I don't want to be self seeking instead I want to find my hope and redemption in Jesus. Jeremy Camp has a BRAND NEW album out called The Answer and songs like, 'Tell the Whole World' have me nodding and lifting my hands in praise.

I love that Jeremy's response to everything going on around us is simple. His answer, Jesus. Can I get an Amen?!

Cooking is my comfort. It is my place to just be. Sing, dance and make a mess. I love that my kids watch my every move while I am in the kitchen. They love to join in and help. I love a good wrap you up in my arms and give you a squeeze type of books. Make you feel good and bring a smile to your face type of book. This book has all the feelers and sweetness that will have you overflowing with joy from the moment your sweet love awakes till the second they lay their fuzzy heads down to count sheep.

The illustrations are beyond fantastic. Wide range of colors and specks of water or dirt to make it look realistic. The storyline was written with love and makes my mama heart BRIM over as I read it to my littles. IN FACT...they love this book so much I had to FIND it to write this very blog post! They hijacked it right away! The sweet part is my older two enjoy it as well. It is exactly what I would say to my babies!

It's been awhile. I have been out of sorts with adjustments and birthdays and in full on selfishness of spending time with my kids. But when I was asked to read the new book by Max Davis called 'When Jesus was a Green Eyed Brunette' somethin' about the name y'all...jumped right out at me! Did you know having green eyes is more rare? I had a gentleman at a gathering stop me one time and say "You have the most stunning green eyes!" I looked at him, put my hand on his shoulder and said, "Boy if I weren't married I would have kissed you! No one ever notices I have green eyes!"


The thing is...we pass by Jesus every day. But most of us just walk on by. Not even realizing or taking the time to glance up from our smartphones and look to see the person within. God utilizes individuals on the regular to step into your life and speak to your soul. We were all formed in HIS likeness. In HIS image. Therefore we are to reflect that of Jesus. I love how my buddy Max (yup, sorry Max...you didn't know that but we are TOTALLY on a first name basis now!) said, "Jesus is an actual living being. He is God. We don't have to work at making ourselves holy. We could never do that. Our job is to get out of the way and let Him live through us. Authentic Christianity is all about a relationship. A relationship with Jesus that transforms a person."

I am so excited to tell you how I have it all figured out. This parenting thing is a breeze and I have it completely in my control. And I am going to give you MY personal checklist on what it means to be a good parent and how to do it exactly like me!

Wait, what? You don't believe me? OH wait, I don't either. Every once in awhile you need a swift kick in the knee caps to bring you back down to reality. I don't have it all figured out, nor should I have it all figured out. I am genuinly scared of so called "parenting" books. Seems silly right? Or tossed cookies in your freshly washed Sedan. You can decide which type. What is the point of doing this day in and day out? Is there REALLY a purpose for it? Finally I read a book that had me thinking outside of the box. Like, it really made me stop and take an outward look to the inner life that we are living.

Do you ever pick up a book and think to yourself...wait did I write this? Flipping it over to make sure your picture isn't on the back?! Seriously I related on so many levels with Jen Wilkin. Her words were sarcastic, funny and poignant. She starts out her book by telling us how she would have punched you in the face 5 years ago, had you told her she would sit down and write a book for Christian woman. I let out a snort and giggle as I took another bite of my donut {doesn't everyone eat donuts and read books?!}

I think the thing I loved the most is it wasn't a "religious thumping" book. You know the ones, you nod off while you start to read a page. You wake up and almost dread reading on. NOT because you don't want to learn more about God. But because the words that were written on the pages were not resonating within you. They weren't relatable.

I long to learn more about God. I lean on the longing to draw closer to Him. Truly just as the title reads, there really is None Like Him. I love how Jen breaks down 10 attributes of God. She draws you deeper in such an inciteful and longing sort of way. I couldn't wait to get to the end of the chapter so I could scribble my notes in my journal and process the words I just read.


Thank you Jen for writing your words down. You have no idea how desperate I was to read them. I didn't realize how a book could impact my now. And I am so grateful to be able to see some stuff in a new perspective. I have learned more in depth of the characteristics of MY God. And I am glad you listened, when He told you to speak. (speak, write...same difference!)

I am looking, searching, seeking out that understanding. I need to be patient. My faith is grounded, yet my want and need to know more is crippling. It makes my head spin. It creates turmoil within. The evil one is taking jabs at me, filling my head with thoughts that are not my own. I seek to know Jesus and he steps in my way trying to get me to avoid running into HIS arms. The holy one. Evil will not prevail.

My baby. My boy. My son...he is battling anxiety and depression at a very young age. It is hard. I feel alone most days and don't feel like doing normal things. I want to hide my pain and yet I need to talk about it and cry about it. My frustration is overwhelming me. Dealing day to day is hard. We walk on eggshells. You don't know when it will hit. It is like being sideswiped by a semi-truck going 70 mph. Everything is "perfect". There is laughter, fun, singing and praising and then...BAM. It hits. And it is ugly. Typically there are tears. You watch your child display Jekyll and Hyde before your very eyes. And so far, nothing turns it off. It has ruined birthdays, dinner nights out and family time. It is time consuming, exhausting, mentally and physically draining. You feel stuck and don't know what to do. He has to learn to readapt. It is something his mind and body struggles with...and it is something that breaks me apart inside.

I am not a perfect mom. A perfect wife, friend or person in fact. I sin. Daily. But I am trying. I sin when I look at him and think, "Why can't you just be normal?" How unfair is that? He IS normal. He is fighting a battle that I need to fight beside him. Sometimes it feels like I am his battle. I am the cause. When he comes out of an episode and you see the sweet child you know and love so much, who looks you in the eyes and says "I am so sorry mommy." your heart breaks again. Why am I not fighting for him?

When you see him walking to the car after school with his sister and he is SMILING...you whisper "Thank you Jesus!". He climbs inside and you happily say, "Hi bud! I missed you! How was your day?" and just as an egg hardens in boiling water, so does he. He becomes stiff, rigid and you hear a lot of "harrumphs." And instantly, your heart sinks. You see it not only affects him. It affects you. It affects his sisters, who were just giggles moment before. The car becomes silent and you just want to fold up into a fetal position...and cry. It sucks.

"Is he angry?", is a question I get a lot. Typically, no. For my son, it comes out in extreme sensitivity. HIGH emotions and when he speaks it is mumbles and whines. He goes from happy, life giving and sweet to mopy and sad. This cycle hits off and on throughout a day. There are days where it doesn't hit at all, and you see glimpses of your happy child. Your heart yearns for more. The worst thing you can say to a mom who is struggling is, "Ooooh...it is because he is the ONLY boy. I just know it. Poor kid." <---- Homey say what?! Don't, I repeat. DO NOT say that to anyone!


Today it hit us again. It started at 5 in the morning and came on as though he was sick. Yesterday we were elated to find out Noah was moving UP in his reading class. We "thought" we were preparing him with excitement in joy. Little did we know inside was turmoil. It manifests into not feeling good. Sometimes it comes as headaches. His thoughts become OCD and he can't stop thinking about every scenario..."Where will I sit?" "Which kid will have to leave because I am moving in there?" "Which kid will take my place in my class?" "What if they don't have a seat for me?" The thoughts never stop. Once I figured out the problem, I started talking him through it. We then decided for him to go back to school for the rest of the day. He agreed.

On the way walking into the school, "What if they already had snack?" "What if they already sang Happy Birthday to Tomie?" "Will they be in the classroom?" "What if I can't find them." <----- this constant questions when a routine is off are draining me. Constantly trying to keep up the pep. Always cheerily, helping steer him through it.



For us we decided on play therapy. We are open minded if down the road he needs to try other things. BUT our therapist/psychologist is confident she will be able to help him. He is excited to go. He asks if it is time for HIS play date. I am praying that God will shine a light down our dark tunnel. That the fog will dissipate and I can start to see the end. We also use marbles for incentives. When he has a good day. You see him say something nice, be helpful etc. BUT he is not allowed to ASK for marbles! They can be turned in for time on in the iPod etc. 1 marble is 1 minute. We also have him pray about it and read devotions. IN FACT his new favorite is Jesus Today by Sarah Young! It is perfectly written in a way that he can understand. He feels accomplished when he gets to tell us what he learned.

I have been blessed by many things. But the #1 place I am most grateful...is that Christ the Lord is my ROCK. I love the holiday season. It is my excuse to get into the kitchen and create new recipes. My mama raised me on the farm. We had MILES between us and town so most of what we ate we made from scratch in the kitchen. I was the "baker" of the family. Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl.

2 1/2 cups apple pie filling, chopped
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp nutmeg
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup canola oil
3 3/4 cup flour

Heat oven to 350. Fill the Reynolds bread pans 2/3 way full. Makes enough for 8 mini loaves of bread! I do not remove the parchment paper from the bottom. Pour directly in! Bake for 35 minutes. Set aside to cool 5 minutes and deliver with love to those who mean the most to you!

Let's face it. We all have an inner green meanie (as my family calls it). You know the one that when a friend, neighbor or Facebook friend has something really incredible happen for them. We are all convicted of passionately GIVING comparison. It is embedded inside of us. You might not even know you are doing it. "Oh look at that, I wonder where she got that? I bet she has a rich husband." as you stare at the person in the line of the grocery store. We do it without thinking. But we need to stop that.

OH my word you guys...I love Hallmark! HAVE I told you that yet?! I realized that every single item is wrapped in a Hallmark wrapping of some sort! I cannot get enough and I love the simplicity of it. It is so easy my 5 year old can use it! Cuteness overload!

We shopped till we dropped. I bought myself a coloring book and we brought home something for Mr. Noah to cheer him up (we are infatuated with Itty Bitties!).



My kids love that they can choose wrapping paper to define THEIR personalities! I love that I can find my obsession in ribbon and bows. For real, it's a problem! Now with wrapping out of the way I can snuggle up on my couch with my peppermint bark coloring in my adult coloring book for a stress free holiday!
