I am so excited to tell you how I have it all figured out. This parenting thing is a breeze and I have it completely in my control. And I am going to give you MY personal checklist on what it means to be a good parent and how to do it exactly like me!
Wait, what? You don't believe me? OH wait, I don't either. Every once in awhile you need a swift kick in the knee caps to bring you back down to reality. I don't have it all figured out, nor should I have it all figured out. But I do know one thing...I was chosen to parent these 4 kiddos that call me mama (and a few extra that are "adopted") for a reason. God is using me to lead them by example. To train them up to better HIS kingdom. Not MY household.
I am genuinly scared of so called "parenting" books. Seems silly right? I mean we all could use a little manual to help us in our days with our nuggets who just spilled an entire gallon of milk on your carpet you just had washed. Or tossed cookies in your freshly washed Sedan. You can decide which type. What is the point of doing this day in and day out? Is there REALLY a purpose for it? Finally I read a book that had me thinking outside of the box. Like, it really made me stop and take an outward look to the inner life that we are living.
Paul David Tripp wrote a new book that came out on September 30th called Parenting 14 Gospel Principles that gave me some "ah ha" moments mixed with scripture. Did I agree with EVERYTHING...well a few things I felt didn't apply to my life but throughout the book I was given a completely NEW insight into how I should really be seeing this journey of parenthood. I took a look at what I am doing in my life and in my day to day and reflected on "Is this for the good of my family?" "Is this going to benefit Him?" "What is really important to me?"
My husband laughed at me because I was in tears the other day when I came home to an empty house. Everyone was at school. I was in between errands and the house was quiet. SO quiet I could hear myself think. I was able to pause for a moment and take a look around. Then like a ton of bricks falling onto my heart, I felt weak at the thought of my children growing up.
This book is so uplifting and powerful. It gives you a bigger picture view of what God has planned for us AS parents. It outlines the 14 foundational principles centered on the gospel. It debunks the idea of needing the latest and greatest parenting strategy and techniques. Instead, we need the grace of God. God has the power to shape how we view parenting and what we do as parents. I even told my sons Psych (he suffers from anxiety and depression which has turned into a great blessing and is under control!) about it and she was intrigued!
I love it when I am told I get to give something awesome away for free! This book is one I think every parent should read. It is a fairly quick read and I really like his wit and humor. Paul was easy to follow along with and I like his writing style. You can order his book on Amazon <---- click!
