The very first chapter of the bible we learn about the creation and how it became. We read in Genesis 1:27 that { God created man in HIS OWN IMAGE, in the IMAGE OF GOD He created him; male and female He created them. } That is a hard idea for me to grasp most days. I am a wife, mother, daughter, Aunt and friend. But I can honestly say I have never really taken this verse to heart. Then I realized my answer was just this...I am a wife, mother, daughter, Aunt AND friend. What does it take to be these 5 things? Love...
To love you have to show grace {Definition of GRACE 1 a : unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification b : a virtue coming from God c : a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine grace}, mercy, compassion and kindness. These are 4 attributes in HIS image that I know I behold. In order to love you have to have these in you. I first learned to love by being a daughter. You grow up fall in love and then I became a wife. My most important role to me so far has been to become a mother. I get to practice these 4 attributes on a daily basis. "Noah, please use your words not your emotions." "Emily Grace sweetie, how was your day? Can you tell me about it?" "OH wow...that was a BIG fall. Did you dent the pavement? Lets go look! I am so sorry it hurt." or maybe even with a stranger "Here can I help you with that?" I know most of us use these 4 attributes on a daily basis. It helps to shape us and grow us. These attributes we share with God, draw us closer to Him.
"How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadows of your wings" Psalm 36:7 - His love for us is unimaginable to the human brain. The only way I can begin to even remotely relate to this is when I look into the face of my children...
My heart wells up for them. Mama bear instinct comes out...just as it does in God. He is our protector, our creator...our nurturer. Sound familier?
God is Omnipresent. He is EVERYWHERE. Doesn't matter where we go He will never leave us. { Joshua 1:9 } I once again relate this back to my sweet children...no matter what they do. Where they go. I am there for THEM. I follow them in their hearts. I am with them where ever they go. I will NEVER leave them.
My God is faithful...
Through His almighty faithfulness He taught ME how to be faithful. Faithful to Him, to my family, my husband and my friends. His faithfulness is great. As the bible says in Lamentations...The steadfast love of the Lord NEVER ceases. I am forever grateful!
When it comes down to summing this all up the only plausible explanation I can come up with is that God created us to be equal. He bestowed attributes of Himself within us to help to teach us, grow us and to remember not to be judgmental of others. It is not our place. Instead He wants us to use these attributes to love thy neighbor and thy friend. Show compassion to the homeless man you pass-by every week. { bring him a meal, make a blessing bag...found HERE }, show mercy and kindness to others { Instead of getting upset that your neighbors dog kept you up at night barking, bake them some banana bread. Wish them happiness in their day! }When your children come home from school or even a friends house...show them some compassion by listening with your eyes. Not just your ears. Truly mean it that you care about them and what is important to them. Be faithful to those around you. Those that are most important to you in your lives. Send your husband a sweet text message telling him how grateful you are to have him as your life partner. Your soul mate. My friend said something when I asked this question that stuck out as pure brilliance...God created man and women to be so different and that it takes the two of us to make up the image of God.

It's so true that a HUGE aspect of God's image that we possess is love! It's so fabulous to know that we are created as people who love (though we do have to choose whether or not we're going to do it). God really is remarkable! Thanks so much for linking up!

LOVE this. I was nodding my head throughout the entire post. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this and agree with everything you said! I love how you found Christ in your roles as a mother, wife, aunt, daughter, and friend. It's all too easy for me to let the world define me in my roles, so to remember all that is in me that screams Jesus is such a refreshing mindset. Great post! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you related this to your (adorable!) children and marriage! That is so practical!
ReplyDeleteI really like this: "He bestowed attributes of Himself within us to help to teach us, grow us and to remember not to be judgmental of others. " So true! Thank you for your heart!
I'm glad I found you through the link-up!
