Pocket Journals

Teacher Appreciation is this week. I wanted something different. I have noticed, for myself that is. That I am constantly thinking of "things" I want to either blog about, make or pray about. BUT when it comes time for me to remember them when I get home...I either misplace the tiny sliver of paper I wrote on, the post it note that I stuck somewhere...who know where! or I didn't write it down and cannot remember for the life of me what it was and it drives me insanely crazy! Ever been there?

I was at Target...I know, I know! AGAIN! I was in the notebook section looking for a journal when I saw these bad boys:

I looked at the cost of these (the small two packs were $0.99! The full sized were $1.09 each) and then I looked at the small one that was pretty for $6.99+. Now here is my dilemma...I want the pretty one. I want it bad. BUT I really do not want to pay the price for a notebook! So I decided to buy the cheaper ones and decorate them myself!

I went through my stash of scrapbook paper (you don't even wanna know how much of a decorative paper junkie I am...its sickening!) and found some of my favorites. I used my scrap booking tape, popped a squat on the floor and turned on Grey's Anatomy (the season finale preview...OMGosh!).

You will take your permanent scrap booking adhesive (make sure its permanent!) and first go all along the outsides of the notebook...one side at a time of course! Then make lines every 1/4 of an inch or so across and diagonal.

This is the tricky part...take your scrapbook paper and lay evenly across the "binding" of the notebook. Press down carefully (you will not be able to remove once stuck!) and rub all around with your hand! You will then flip it over.

Lay on your cutting mat and using a paper cutter CAREFULLY cut all around the book.

Only because I am totally type A I used my rounded edge punch and made sure the corners were rounded still! I then took a nail file and sanded the edges to give it a more distressed look. I think it helped finish it off. Flip the book over and repeat the instructions!

I looked in my stash and found some adorable decorative flowers made out of paper. I ripped the felt bottoms off of them and then used my permanent adhesive all over the bottom of the flower and attached it.

I LOVE how they turned out! AND I am hoping Emily Grace's teachers will love them too! I am putting them in little white bags with a pair of my new fabric button earrings and sealing the bag with twine and washi tape! Easy peasy puddin' and pie! Have a blessed night!

    1. The books were 99c (for 2) and I had the scrapbook paper (but really like 59c a sheet at Michael's) and I bought more posies (the other day!) with a 50% off coupon so they were $2.49 (have 9 on a sheet!)so really even cheaper than 1/2 price!! The teachers loved them! And they really truly were SO easy and fun to make!! Girl you are organized! I often times write things in my phone...and then forget I did! HA! Thanks for stopping by!
