Proverbs 31 Mama-prenuers

Proverbs 31 Mama-prenuers

8:23:00 AM

Today I am more than a little excited not only to officially LAUNCH my new section to Britches & Boots but that I get to introduce my dear friend Jenni to y'all! First off you may be asking "what in the world is Proverbs 31 Mama-prenuers?". Well! Let me tell you!  Proverbs 31 Mamapreneurs is a community of moms pursuing their dream to stay home with their children while also going after their passions. We strive to contribute to our families in whatever ways we can. We (my friend Kara and I) have started a forum on Facebook which we hope is a place to support and lift each other up.  In this forum our hope is that you can feel free to post questions, suggestions, information about your mamapreneur ventures, or anything else you think may benefit the community. If you are a blogger or mama-prenuer and would be interested in being in a spotlight you can find more info in the facebook forum! Since the start of my blog I knew I wanted to do something related to the Proverbs 31 Women. I personally have always called myself a mama-prenuer so when my friend approached me we collaborated ideas and thus is the start!

Now to start us out is Jenni! My friend, mentor, sister in Christ, confidant. She is a wife to a sweetheart of a husband Jean-Marc. They were high school sweethearts and have now been married for 17 years! A mother to 4 amazingly handsome, genuine, honest and brilliant kids ranging in age from 14-3. Her words when she describes the boys: "I have a teenager to a toddler, a preteen and another in between...Jeremy age 14, Samuel age 10, Daniel age 8, and Gabriel Moses age 3". She is literally the hands and feet of Jesus! This girl is smart, funny, kind and someone I turn to for advice. I pray her words will speak as wisdom to your heart! She will be leading us each month with info on the Proverbs 31 Women! Without further ado...here is Jenni!

Far More than Rubies…

“A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.”    Proverbs 31:10

Did you know that rubies are sometimes thought to be more rare and valuable than diamonds?   It is very rare to find and difficult to mine a large piece of raw, uncut ruby that has no fissures or cracks.   A ruby of at least 3 carats in weight can yield more than a diamond of similar quality and size.  The Lord understands the value of this precious Proverbs 31 woman.

Proverbs 3:15 states, “She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.”   The pronoun “she” is actually referred to as wisdom in Proverbs 3, and this passage gives deeper meaning and understanding to the Proverbs 31 woman.  Together these passages help us to understand that the Proverbs 31 woman is …

a woman of precious wisdom…more precious than rubies.

Proverbs 12: 4 “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown.”

·        A crown is a symbol of strength…

·        A crown is a symbol of authority…

·        A crown is a symbol of power…

·        For the man that bears such a crown.

The Proverbs 31 woman is that such woman for her husband.  She is also an industrious, financially savvy, astute, business woman.  If you see Proverbs 31:16, she is involved in commerce and property management.  “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.”  She is a merchant and a profitable one as well.  “She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes” in verse 24.  The Proverbs 31 woman engages in the workplace, which provides another opportunity for her to share the light of Christ to a seeking world.  The point is not her specific job responsibilities but that she seeks ways to provide for her family in ways that the Lord has equipped her.
Many people might mistakenly believe that the Proverbs 31 woman was the “perfect” 31 woman.  Biblical scholars believe she was not any one single woman but rather a composite or aggregate of many accomplished women or the same woman over the span of different seasons.  She is a portrait of ideals, virtues, and qualities to endeavor toward, but she should never be mistaken to be perfect…only One holds the title of being ever-perfect.
The words “noble” or “virtuous” depending upon the specific Bible translation is taken from the Hebrew word “chayill.”  “Chayill” means a woman of valor

·        a strong woman

·        a capable woman

·        a woman with strong convictions.

I believe the Proverbs 31 woman was not a mousy, timid woman with weak-willed intentions and empty convictions.  Oh no, she was a woman of strength and capability, who stood firm and who stood strong in her convictions, as it honored the Lord.
And, the Proverbs 31 woman seeks to honor the Lord in every way she can.

“A woman who fears that Lord is to be praised.”  Proverbs 31:30
