Book Review - Thanksgiving

Last year right after the birth of Ava Faith my children were given this book:

Mary's First Thanksgiving: An Inspirational Story of Gratefulness

It is a sweet book about a little girl who moves to America. Her family doesn't have much in the way of food and she wishes she could move back to Ireland. A neighbor brings her a pumpkin pie to try and cheer her up, but she is still very sad. Her dad ends up telling her a story about the pilgrims and the Native Americans.

When I read this story to my children I have 5 popcorn kernels that I use to show them the part in the book that describes each kernel. They really enjoy this! A very sweet friend wrote these words in the book: "May your hearts always be filled with His song - praise - and thanksgiving." Words cannot express the kindness of this individual. We are always and forever thankful for her and her friendship!

I know I talk about the endless possibilities with the amazing glue E6000...but here are 2 more examples of WHY I love it so much! I went to the dollar store purchased a candle stick holder, a candle holder (medium-ish size) and a clear glass plate...yep $3. Then I found an old mason jar (the short flat wide mouthed kind) and purchased a stem of lime green hydrangeas from Michael's Craft store with the 50% off coupon...bringing my grand total up to...$5.50. Here is what I made:

Candy dish...and the cake plate stand!! (I had a better pic of the cake plate stand and no matter WHAT I do to the pic it still places it in my blog sideways! Drives me nutso!)

I used:

My glue of choice!

Here is what is needed for the candy dish (so simple!)

put the glue around the rim like so...

With the candle holder...cup dish thingy upside down (diggin' my lingo aren't ya?!) place the candlestick holder upside down onto the center of the dish. Let stand this way to fully dry at least 24 hours. That's it. You are done! Now I wouldn't recommend washing in the dishwasher although I can honestly say that I have not actually tried! But as they say...Handmade = Hand wash!

Now for the cake plate -

Here is my Dollar Store plate! I was given a whole box of jars from my Grandma's house (there were old blue glass Ball jars in there too! DROOL!) and I liked that this lid was sorta rusty/worn!

Pluck the flowers off the stem and place in your jar.

Twist your lid back on top and then put your E6000 glue all around the rim. You won't need to put any in the center as it will not be touching the plate and besides you can now see the top of the lid through the cake plate which is kinda fun!

Place your jar upside down on your plate the same way as the candy dish and let sit 24 hours to dry! I am so excited to use my plate for different things!!

There you have it! And all under $10 *counting the glue!

Been awhile!

I feel bad...I have been so worn out from all the parties this last month that I decided to take a week to re-coop! THEN I noticed that this is my 100th blog post and I thought WOW...do I have anything spectacular to share with y'all? And the more I thought about it the more I decided I should just say...thank you! Thank you for being a follower and keeping up with my blog! It means the world to me. Like in a "you have no idea" sorta way!

I have been taking some time to enjoy 3 of the most precious gifts I have ever been given! Play dates, PJ's, movies, parks! It has been a fantastic week! AND to top it off...tomorrow is a no school day and we have plans of doing...wait for it...nothing! I can hardly contain my excitement! Of course, there are a million and one things I can think of that I should be doing. But you know what? I just wanna hang out with them! Maybe bake some cookies, read a book, play with some playdoh or even do a craft!

I will resume with my regular blogging...I promise! But I wanna say thank you again for your kindest understanding for me taking a few days off (or shall I say weeks!).

I figure I will start you guys out with a few tutorials over the next few days of some items I made for my youngest bundle of loves 1st Birthday party! I cannot believe she is 1! I am COMPLETELY head over heels for anything and everything Shabby Chic! Always have been for as long as I could remember! I wanted to display cupcakes individually for the party...I though about it for a while and hit up Craft Warehouse where I was in craft heaven...seriously I could spend an entire day in that store. Although, we would be completely broke afterwards!

Here is what you will need:

Only THE best glue ever to have on hand! I use on almost every project!

3" disc circles...I wouldn't go any smaller than this size!

3" candle sticks!

Next you are going to take your candle stick and squeeze on some of your E6000.

Next you are going to take your circle and place on top so that the candle stick is located directly in the middle! Set these aside and let them dry for an entire day!

When your stand has completely dried you can do one of two things...paint (the method I chose as I had paint jar samples I scored free a few months ago!) or you can spray paint...you may even be able to stain them which could be REALLY pretty! But I have never tried!
